바깥은 여름

"The Utility of Landscapes"

(by Kim Ae-ran, translated by Brother Anthony of Taizé)

Dear all,

Thank you for coming out last week for a discussion on "The Story of Hong Gildong." This may be my favorite work of translation among all the ones we've read thus far. Even if you haven't had time to join our meetings, I encourage you to get a copy of this Penguin Classic.

This month, we will be reading a translation of Kim Ae-ran's short story, title as follows:

The Utility of Landscapes (풍경의 쓸모)
by Kim Ae-ran (김애란), translated by Brother Anthony of Taizé

Please find the full text by clicking here 'PDF version'

The original text is in Kim Ae-ran's short story collection "바깥은 여름" (문학동네, 2017).
